Crapo To Honor Troop Support Efforts With â??Spirit Of Idahoâ?? Award

Kimberly students included in Twin Falls event slated tomorrow

Twin Falls â?? Idaho Senator Mike Crapo will honor three Magic Valley-based efforts to support our troops with his â??Spirit of Idahoâ?? Award tomorrow in Twin Falls. One award involves students from Kimberly High School who are assisting children and family members of Idaho Army National Guard and active duty military members serving in Iraq. Kimberly High School student Trevor Barrott helped organize the Dare to Care program, which includes fundraising efforts to assist the families of soldiers in Iraq. â??Spirit of Idahoâ?? Awards also will go to Stevens Pierce & Associates, a CPA firm promoting the Hats from Home campaign. The Hats from Home effort seeks the donation of local baseball-style caps for use by military members stationed overseas to wear on their days off. To date, more than 5,000 hats have been collected. Sharla Dunn and Sharon Gentert of the Magic Valley Military Support Group will also be honored for their long-standing efforts to assist soldiers and their families in need by offering prayers to babysitting services. The group meets regularly at the Jerome Public Library to plan how to offer services and has been involved in distributing decals for a local yellow ribbon campaign to support the troops. Crapo created the â??Spirit of Idahoâ?? Award in 2000 to honor Idahoans who work to benefit others but often do not get the public recognition they deserve. He flew to Fort Bliss, Texas, in July to visit members of Idahoâ??s Guard training there for deployment to Iraq. Crapo Honors Troop Support Groups with his â??Spirit of Idahoâ??
