Crapo Calls Hud Grants

Housing and community development money headed to the city

Washington, DC â?? The City of Pocatello will receive over $600,000 in community block grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in the current year, Idaho Senator Mike Crapo announced today. According to figures released by HUD released this afternoon, Pocatello will be awarded $623,000 in Community Development Block Grants.â??This much-needed money coming to Pocatello will create a better living environment for low- and moderate-income families,â?? Crapo said. â??Housing and community revitalization are what keep our communities strong, and these funds will help create more affordable housing and home ownership options, and empower the Pocatello community in other important areas like housing rehabilitation, sidewalk repair, homeless assistance, and fair housing.â?? Crapo is a member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, which oversees housing issues in Congress.The grant awarded by HUD is part of the Bush Administrationâ??s commitment to meeting local housing needs and expanding housing opportunities for Americans. HUD has placed a strong emphasis on community renewal and neighborhood redevelopment. In addition, the city is expected to support activities that will increase home ownership, support the homeless, elderly and people with disabilities, and create affordable rental opportunities for low-income residents.# # #
