> 10/20/2006 - Monuments

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know if you want to see the monuments in DC but don’t want to walk everywhere the tour-trolley is a great way to go.  They drop you off at the major sites and you walk around the site taking as much or as little time as you want.  When you get tired of an area just hop on a trolley and go to the next area, they cover the mall and Arlington National Cemetery.  It is definitely worth while, but the draw back is that sometimes the trolley’s are full so the wait can be upwards of a half hour or longer to get to another location.  It is best to start in the morning if you want to get through all the sites.

My favorite site would have to be the Roosevelt memorial; it is a great work that has four waterfalls and a small trickle of a waterfall that could make five.  There are depictions of the events that went on in each of his terms as president.  It is beautiful and definitely worth the time to visit.  Other than that I would recommend going Arlington and walking around the cemetery.  The changing of the guard is impressive and the feel of being in an area commemorating our nation’s fallen heroes is a reverencing experience.  Another impressive site is the Iwo Jima memorial which commemorates the Marines who gave their lives in WWII.
