Washington, DC – Idaho Senator Mike Crapo wants Idaho homeless and housing advocates to take full advantage of grant opportunities just announced by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The fiscal year 2003 “SuperNOFA” (Notification of Funding Availability) includes 43 separate funding opportunities for local communities, states, and other organizations involved with homeless individuals, affordable housing, and economic protection.
“Idahoans have long recognized the importance of strong community programs to assist in housing and home ownership,” Crapo said. “HUD’s streamlined application process will help Idaho groups and communities as they work to qualify for the federal funds available for assistance in these areas. I encourage those programs that are interested to learn more about what is available and how it can benefit our Idaho communities.”
HUD’s Northwest States Regional Director John Meyers said, “This year, HUD’s SuperNOFA includes everything an organization needs to compete for these important funds. In addition, HUD will be presenting informational broadcasts on each of the individual grants.”
Grants are available for community development technical assistance, university and college programs, student research and study program, fair housing initiatives, economic development programs, and a number of specialized housing assistance programs targeted at individuals with disabilities, homeless, and low-income families.
According to HUD, interested entities can now use a website to expedite their application process. The website, http://www.hud.gov/offices/adm/grants/fundsavail.cfm, is a one-stop approach that includes everything an applicant needs to prepare funding requests to HUD.
