Action on Transportation

On December 15, 2005, I introduced S. 2108, the Backcountry Landing Strip Access Act. This bill will adopt a nationwide policy to protect backcountry landing strips on federal lands. I worked with the Idaho Department of Transportation in crafting the bill, and all the general aviation-related industry groups have applauded my efforts to ensure that backcountry landing strips are not arbitrarily closed by the federal government. While this bill will need to be re-introduced in the 110th Congress because no action was completed on it during the 109th Congress, I will continue to work on its passage.
