2010 Census
|
The results of the 2010 Census were released in late December 2010. Every ten years, the U.S. Census counts every resident in the country; it's a Constitutional requirement set out in Article 1, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution:
The actual enumeration shall be made within three years after the first meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent term of 10 years, in such manner as they shall by Law direct.
In March 2010, every residence in the United States and Puerto Rico should receive a short census form. The form will contain ten questions and will come with a postage-paid envelope. If you don't complete and mail back the form, you may receive a visit from a census taker who will ask you the questions from the form. Any personal data you provide is protected under federal law. Full census results can be found on the census website.
From the last census in 2000, until the 2010 Census, Idaho was the fourth fastest growing state in the nation. Idaho's population grew from 21.1% over the decade. Only Nevada, Utah and Arizona grew at a faster rate. Idaho's population increased from 1,293,953 to 1,573,499. Despite this significant growth, as in 2000, Idaho remained as the #39 state in the nation, based on population. Overall the western region grew at a fast rate, with Nevada, Utah and Washington each adding one Congressional seat.
