Larry Edwin Craig, served from 1991 to 2009
Larry Craig was born in Council, Adams County, Idaho on July 20, 1945. He attended public schools and received his B.A. from the University of Idaho, in Moscow in 1969. He did his graduate work at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and received his Masters in 1970.
Craig was a farmer and a rancher and member of the Idaho Senate from 1974 until 1980. He was also a delegate to the Idaho State Republican conventions from 1976 through 1978.
He was elected as a Republican to the House of Representatives during the Ninety-seventh and four succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1981-January 3, 1991). Craig was elected to the United States Senate in 1990 and then re-elected in 1996 for the term ending January 3, 2003. He also served as the chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee. He retired following his third term ending in 2009.
