Bert Henry Miller, served 1949
Bert Miller was born in St. George, Washington County, Utah on December 15, 1879. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1901, and from Cumberland University Law School, Lebanon, Tennessee, in 1902.
Miller was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in St. Anthony, Idaho, in 1903. He was prosecuting attorney of Fremont County, Idaho from 1912 to 1914. He was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Congress in 1914.
In 1932, he was elected Attorney General of Idaho and re-elected in 1934. He ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 1936. In 1938, he served for two months as Idaho�s Labor Commissioner. He then ran a second time, unsuccessfully, for the Democratic seat in 1938 to the Seventy-sixth Congress. From 1940 until 1944, Miller continued his service as the Attorney General of Idaho. In 1944, he was elected as a justice of the State Supreme Court.
Miller was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate in 1948 for the term commencing January 3, 1949, and served until his death in Washington, D.C., October 8, 1949. He is buried at Morris Hill Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.
