How Can I Contact President Bush?

Many Idahoans may want to contact the White House to express an opinion or to request a greeting card for various occassions.

The following contact information may help you in determining where to direct your comment, request, or concern:

 

To express an opinion or question about current policy issues:

Phone: (202) 456-1111, the White House Comment Line. Although you initially get an automated answering system, you can talk directly to someone Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern. During other hours, you may leave a voice mail message

To receive a Presidential Message or Greeting:

The White House has a Greetings Office that will supply Presidential greeting cards to acknowledge a variety of occasions such as birthdays, births, weddings, wedding anniversaries, deaths, illnesses, graduations, and retirements. Such requests can be made through Senator Crapo's office (local or DC) and must be made four to six weeks in advance of the event (except for births). The guidelines are as follows:

Birthdays: 80 years or more, please include age.

Wedding anniversaries: 50 years or more, please include husband's first name.

Births: requests only after baby's birth, card is addressed to baby.

Condolence/Sympathy: card addressed to immediate family member only.

Get well: for serious illness only; card addressed to person who is ill.

Eagle Scout: card addressed to Eagle Scout.

Girl Scout Gold Award: card addressed to Girl Scout Gold Award recipient.

Graduation: card addressed to high school or college graduate letter addressed to high school or college graduating class.

Wedding: card addressed to the couple after the marriage; please include husband's first name.

Retirement: please include number of years of service and type of employment; card addressed to person who is retiring.

Special occasion: for bar/bat mitzvahs.

Cards will be mailed from the White House approximately ten days before the event (except for births). Please provide the name of recipient(s), title (if applicable), mailing address, date of event, date of celebration (if applicable).

To receive a proclamation or message on behalf of a civic/church group:

The White House Messages Office can be reached at (202) 456-5917. This office handles requests for proclamations or messages from the President directed at local groups or individuals being honored by local groups. For example, you may request an anniversary message for a volunteer fire department, for a church dedication, etc. Make these requests directly to the White House Messages Office.

To schedule a public tour of the White House:

Due to security concerns, the White House is not open for general public tours. School groups of 10 students or more can be scheduled through Senator Crapo's office. Contact Tim Schlack at 202-224-6142 for details.

To receive a photograph of the President and/or First Lady:

Please make your request in writing at the above and provide a complete mailing address.

To send a gift to the President and/or First Lady:

Please send the gift to the mailing address listed above. You should receive a thank you acknowledgement from the President.
